TARYN + SCOTT | GOODALE PARK - SHORT NORTH ENGAGEMENT SESSION, COLUMBUS OHIO ENGAGEMENTS, COLUMBUS OHIO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Taryn is one of those brides you can't help but love instantly. She found us on Instagram (we love that!) and knew she had to message us. We are so glad she did! We set up a Skype date (they live in D.C.) and the rest is history. We were so excited to find out they were going to be in town and scheduled their engagement session. We couldn't wait to meet them!!
They decided to start their session at Taryn's parents house so Beaumont could make his debut. He is the sweetest pup you'll ever meet! This was a fantastic idea. Scott and Taryn were super comfortable in this location and loved playing with their baby so much! It was smooth sailing from then on.
Don't you LOVE Beaumonts adorable bow tie? They had some adorable props from their backyard location.
They even had a little tie for him! He was seriously so well behaved. It was so easy to get all the photos we wanted and the ones Taryn wanted!
This brings us to our next location! Goodale Park was next on the list and perfect with the sun setting. These two are seriously the easiest to take photos of. They have so much fun together and just enjoy each others company.
HOW THEY MET
Scott and I first met at Wright State University, where we both went to college. I was a Sophomore and he was a Freshman. Scott and his fraternity brothers were hosting a party and I was invited by a mutual friend. I had a boyfriend at the time but I recall talking to Scott and thinking he was a sweetheart. Unfortunately, our paths didn't cross again until years later when I was on the board of a young professional organization and we were hosting a networking event. Scott showed up, recognized me, and came up to me and re-introduced himself. Of course, his lead-in was telling me everything he remembered about me from our initial meeting...and I didn't remember him. He realized it came off a bit creepy and we both had a good laugh. We became friends that night, and were friends for years. He decided to move to Washington, DC for a job, and it wasn't until he moved 500 miles away that he got the courage to say he "adored me." The feeling was mutual and we dated long-distance for a year, until I moved in with him in 2015.
We took a family vacation - Scott, our dog, Beaumont, and me - in July. We decided to do a long weekend in Virginia Beach and I was NOT expecting a proposal. One night, he and I went to a restaurant right on the beach called Catch 31. We shared a bottle of wine and each ordered king crab legs. It was such a fun dinner - just relaxing while eating dinner and watching the waves wash up on the shore. We also had a good laugh when I cracked my crab and a giant piece flew across the restaurant. After dinner, Scott asked if I wanted to walk back to the hotel on the beach instead of the boardwalk. I said sure, and off we went. We were about halfway back to our hotel when he told me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I, thinking it was just a nice, romantic stroll on the beach agreed, still not seeing what was coming. We kissed and then suddenly he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked, all I could say was "Is this for real?" He said yes, laughed, asked again, and this time I said yes! I was so surprised, I had to sit down in the sand. I did a lot of ugly (but happy) crying and eventually felt stable enough to get back up and walk back to the hotel.
With new locations come new outfit changes...and for this bride-to-be it meant jumping into the covering of a nearby tree. She was completely covered and even mentioned that someone else must have had the same idea because she found hangers and clothes under the tree already!!
Describe your style: Playful, fun, and relaxed.
How many outfits did you take?
We each had three outfits, though for the first two, we just had to quickly change our shirts.
How did you coordinate or decide on the outfits you used in the photographs?
- We picked out a casual outfit (jeans and a burgundy top with scarf for me, jeans and a casual black top for Scott) for photos in my parents backyard. We included our dog in those photos and picked out a tiny blue tie for him so he could look dapper too :)
- For the photos in the park, we went with different tops - still casual but a little more texture to them.
- For the "city" photos, we wanted to look like we were on an actual date (which we did go on right after the pictures), so I work a skirt and top and Scott wore jeans and shirt with a jacket.
Where did you shop for your outfits?
I bought a new pair of jeans and a burgundy top at White House Black Market. Everything else we already owned and have worn before. We wanted to be sure we were comfortable in all of our clothes. I knew if I wasn't comfortable or didn't feel confident in how I looked in something, I would be focused on that and not on having fun with my fiance.
These next few photos are some of my ALL time favorites of the shoot. Daniel and I had scoped out this location (while Elle was getting a tattoo - it's been our trend lately) and I knew this alley way would be perfect so when Elle made them stop for some shots I was so excited everyone loved it as much as I did. Now, this is where their goofy and playful personalities truly shined. We simply captured them being them!
Seeing as how we were downtown Columbus in the Short North...cars were passing but that didn't stop these two from having the time of their lives together. They danced...and danced...and danced some more! I love these!! We couldn't help but sneak a few <3

TIPS FROM OUR BRIDE TO BE
I picked out my outfits first and had Scott pick out his to go with mine - that way we weren't both trying to pick out outfits that clashed.
Practice your makeup for about a week before hand. I had a new lip gloss that boasts that it will not come off, and that was a very accurate description. Unfortunately I messed up when putting it on and needed to remove it. Some of my skin actually came off because I had to scrub so hard. My lips were raw the whole photo session but fortunately you can't tell - it looks like I am wearing gloss but it is actually my poor, raw lips!
Relax and be yourselves. Let your personalities shine through. The B+E team is so professional and easygoing that it was easy for us to go out and have fun. I think that really shows in our photos. We honestly had such a great time getting our photos taken and we LOVE how they turned out. The fact that we had so much fun really comes through in the pictures. If you and/or your fiance are nervous, perhaps pick some places you feel really comfortable and have been before, in order to feel more relaxed for your photos.
Think about how you are going to use the photos and plan accordingly. I knew we want to send Save the Dates and I wanted to have a couple props for that. We researched and purchased large, wooden numbers (our date, 10.21.17). For our dog, we bought him a tie that we picked out at the pet store. We also ordered a bow-tie that says "Save the Date" that hangs around his neck. I found the wooden signs on Etsy.
This photo will forever make me smile...and probably every person there in this moment. Not because of how awesome it is...because it is an amazing photo but because these two HOPPED to the middle of the street!!
