RACHEL + JOHNNY | OHIO STATE ENGAGEMENT SESSION, COLUMBUS OHIO ENGAGEMENT, COLUMBUS OHIO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
I had been looking forward to this session for weeks!! Rachel and I had been texting and snapchatting so I simply couldn't wait to see them again...and meet Winnie!!! I kept seeing so many photos of him, he is the sweetest! Just wait until you see him!
Rachel and Johnny had a few options for location but campus won out overall. Too much awesome happened at this shoot...you'll have to stay tuned to find out what happened!
I love their story. Every time Rachel talks about how they met she simply says they met in an alley. It cracks me up every time, I was super happy to finally hear the whole story!
We went on a cruise together to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, etc that left from Tampa. I had known he had the ring for quite a while so the proposal was looming around every possible corner. Every time he bent down to tie his shoes I would panic. He knows I love photography and taking photos so he scheduled a photo shoot around the cruise ship. At the end, we were in the center of the boat, and he proposed. He caught me just in time because I was on my way turning around saying "Ok that's enough pictures I'm hungry and done with this!" - surprise! I don't even remember what he said because I think I blacked out in the moment. The cruise ship patrons were all cheering & we were greeted with a bottle of champagne from the captain's staff.
HERE COMES WINNIE!!! Not only did Rachel and Johnny bring their pup, we was also wearing an OSU JERSEY! He was the most well behaved pup and listened so well.
Here's where we get to the fun part...school had just started about a week or so earlier and Rachel and Johnny really wanted to take photos inside the stadium...SOOOO we snuck in. We even took Winnie! Shhhh don't tell.
Johnny really was a great sport about his shoes...he did however take them off for a bit while we tried to get back out of the Stadium. It was a little more confusing. I can now say I know the Stadium EXTREMELY well. And a little shout out the the only other person in the Stadium with us playing his trumpet. It was an added bonus for us all and especially for Winnie. He enjoyed the show very much.
Any tips on what to bring to your engagement session?
I prepared a bag in advance - this had a lip gloss, tissues (it was super hot!) - water, a lint roller (for the dog fur) and a prop to include in the photos! I also brought a quick pair of flip flops to walk in from location to location around OSU as to not slow down the shooting time!
We also brought our pup to the photos so we had schedule some friends in advance to come hold his leash and watch him while we photographed. For him I included in the bag: two outfits, a bowl, water, potty-bags, leash, treats to capture his attention while photographing.
Tips on how to prepare for the session?
- I had a glass of wine beforehand. ;)
- I researched on Pinterest some poses and ideas that I wanted to accomplish (but I enjoy photography and photo staging so that was a hobby!)
- I thought about our outfits beforehand. Do not let bae find his clothes last minute, make him try on the outfit for you a week beforehand.
- He (Johnny) is a great guy who actually chose the OSU campus and I am very happy with that decision. Allowing us to shoot in a location we are most comfortable and familiar with is a great idea.
- I prepared a bag in advance that had items in it.
Rachel and Johnny opted for one outfit, which I think was the best idea (for their shoot). Because they decided to walk around campus and bring their fur baby, only having one outfit was perfect for them!
How was your experience during your session?
Amazing! Gina, Daniel, and Brett were so wonderful. We felt that they were friends first, photographers second. I felt very comfortable with them and we had a ton of laughs. Not to mention - Gina & Daniel have a wonderful romance and it was great having a couple there to exemplify the poses they were dreaming up for us! I am so glad I met this team and I can't wait to have them at my wedding. I recommend them to every couple that I find out is engaged!
Did you take any props or try to incorporate any activities that you and your fiancé are involved in?
Our pup is our number one fan - so of course, we brought him. He really stole the spotlight!
What’s one piece of advice you would give to other couples for the session?
Have fun - laugh, make it personal, and enjoy each other. Also, have a glass of wine beforehand. ;)
We had so much fun hanging out with you on campus and LOVED meeting Winnie!! Daniel and I couldn't be more excited for your wedding!! It is going to be so much fun. And, you are going to LOVE the new props for the Photo Booth!
