COURTNEY + MIKE | CLEVELAND ENGAGEMENT SESSION, COLUMBUS OHIO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY, BRETT LOVES ELLE PHOTOGRAPHY
The team was pretty excited to embark on a mini road trip... ON EASTER SUNDAY! We had no idea what to expect so we packed our gear and umbrellas just in case and headed out. It takes a solid 2 1/2 hours to get to Cleveland, Ohio so we all settled in: Brett driving, Elle sleeping, Daniel playing games, and me watching a new Netflix original. It seemed like we were there in no time! It was amazing, when did Cleveland get so pretty? Why didn't anyone tell us that? The buildings were to die for and there seemed to be so much roomier than Columbus, Ohio... or was that just us?
We decided to meet our couple at Hyatt Regency at the Arcade because it really is kind of hard to miss and conveniently right across the street from E 4th Street. HOW PERFECT. I love this little backstreet. We had a blast with Courtney & Mike as we shook out all the awkward and captured some adorable images. Once we finished we decided to head to Voinovich Bicentennial Park right on Lake Erie and near The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It was too cool. This is where our couple changed their clothes and we caught the sunset. What a wonderful day!
THE PROPOSAL STORY
I'll start by saying that Mike and I have been dating for 7 years and he is horrible at keeping secrets and surprises (to the point that he will give me birthday and Christmas gifts days in advance). However, somehow, Mike 100% surprised me with the proposal! We went to Put-in-Bay, which is a place that has very special and sentimental meaning to me. We went to a little beach area that I showed him the first time we traveled there. With help from his parents (aka assistant planners/photographers), he hid a 'message in a bottle' near the water edge while I wasn't looking. When I first saw the bottle, I figured it was trash. But then Mike called me over to it and said, "Look what I found!" It had the words Open Me! on the outside. I said, "Wow! Looks like it's for someone's treasure hunt. How cute! We should put it back so we don't mess anything up for whoever it is for!" Mike said, "Let's just open it!" ...this is when I started getting suspicious (you see, Mike never does anything bad...and for him to possibly ruin someone's treasure hunt was not normal). So, I suspiciously opened it and inside was a beautiful handwritten letter. When I finished reading, I turned around and he was on one knee. I obviously said "Yes!" -Courtney
We met in high school at the start of our senior year through mutual friends. I guess our first date would have been the Sadie Hawkins dance, and then we became "official" shortly after that. We were only dating 4 months before our relationship became a long-distance once (we went to colleges that are about 4 hours apart).
